EVERY LITTLE COUNTS FOR NEW TESCO STAFF SUPPORTED BY JOBNET

news imagesA number of Sheffield people who were previously unemployed are now working thanks to a unique partnership between Jobnet, Sheffield’s unique job service and local employer Tesco.

Tesco has recently taken on two new members of staff who have learning disabilities thanks to the Intermediate Labour Market (ILM) programme, which is run through Jobnet part of the Centre For Full Employment (CFFE) and is designed to offer paid employment for up to a year for people who have been long term unemployed.

The ILM programme aims to provide valuable training and work experience, and help people pick up employment skills, and adjust to the demands and responsibilities of paid work.

Julie Usherwood had previously found it difficult finding work because of her disability and had been out of work for four years before she joined Tesco through Jobnet at Bridge Employment and the ILM programme.

Jobnet helped Julie with her CV and application form and supported her when she first started her job at Tesco by providing her with on-the-job-training and advice.

Julie said: ”When I was out of work I felt really fed-up but now I’m working I feel great. I think it’s brilliant the way Jobnet handle people with disabilities. I always got treated like an adult.”

Steph, Julie’s supervisor at Tesco said: ”Julie is a hard worker and is friendly with both the staff and customers.”
