JOBNET LAUNCH NEW OUTREACH SERVICE FOR JOBSEEKERS IN GLEADLESS
Sheffielders from the Gleadless area of the city popped a cork recently to celebrate, after Sheffield’s unique, free recruitment service came to their end of town.
Jobnet has established a huge network of successful bases across the city, but have previously not serviced the Gleadless end of town with a local base. The service helps local people find employment through providing advice and assistance with CV writing, applications forms, interview techniques, and also access to a city-wide database of job vacancies.
The new Gleadless outreach will provide trained and experienced Jobnet Advisers, available at the Gleadless Valley Community Forum, Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm (appointment only). Anyone who is interested in finding out what Jobnet can do to help them find a job, change career or return to work, should call 264 9120 during opening hours and talk to Julie Howe, Jobnet Adviser.
Sue Thomson, Project Manager at Jobnet @ Norfolk Park and Gleadless said: “It’s really rewarding when we expand our services into new communities and see people whose confidence has been boosted because they have found a job they really enjoy!
“Often jobseekers can not get to recruitment services in the city for a variety of reasons. Our outreach team offers them an alternative close to their homes where they can receive professional support and advice on finding employment.”
The number of people in employment last year was up by 216,000 since 2005. The average number of job vacancies has also increased with 1,700 more vacancies available than in 2005. (Office of National Statistics 2006)
Doug Low, Chief Executive of the Centre for Full Employment said: “The Jobnet service has already helped thousands of people find full and part-time employment since it was first established.
“Each time we offer Jobnet in a new community it is a boost to the network and to local people, particularly when, we are able to expand the service we offer into areas that are going to benefit from it the most.”
“I’m confident that this new outreach service will be as successful as previous outreach services and hope that people take advantage of the services on offer and go see the Job Advisers for help with all their employment needs.”
